Imhoof-Blumer assembles coin representations of nymphs, Charites, and related female personifications across the Greek world, using twelve plates and careful comparisons of attributes, poses, local myths, and inscriptions. The work is useful for identifying otherwise anonymous female heads or figures, tracing regional cults and river or spring personifications, and comparing coin images with sculpture and literary evidence. Specimen references often lead to rare civic bronzes in private collections.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
