Newell studies Alexander-type tetradrachms carrying dated or otherwise sequential marks at Sidon and Ake, using ten plates, die comparison, monograms, and local eras to build an absolute mint chronology. The monograph is useful for identifying emissions, distinguishing the two Phoenician mints, testing regnal or civic dates, and linking coin production to the wars of Alexander and his successors. It also preserves specimen pedigrees from collections and hoards available before the First World War.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, and provenance evidence, verify chronology, mint and ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and present specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
