Newell reconstructs the Alexander coinage of Tarsos through twelve plates, die links, monograms, symbols, hoards, and changes in type and fabric. The monograph is useful for distinguishing emissions, testing the sequence of local officials or controls, and connecting mint activity with Alexander’s conquest and the early successor period. It is also a classic demonstration of the die-study method that Newell applied to other Hellenistic mints.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
