The Seleucid Mint of Antioch

Newell’s foundational study reconstructs the output of the Seleucid mint at Antioch through ruler sequences, types, monograms, control marks, hoards, and die relationships, illustrated on thirteen plates. It is useful for identifying emissions, distinguishing Antioch from other Syrian mints, and understanding the development of early twentieth-century mint attribution. The specimen lists also preserve collection and provenance information for coins later dispersed.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
