American Journal of Numismatics, vols. 51–53

American Journal of Numismatics, vols. 51–53, covers several consecutive issues of the first series. This late first-series run records numismatic work during and immediately after the First World War. Its Greek coverage includes research notes, bibliographic notices, institutional reports, correspondence, and information on collections and sales affected by wartime conditions. It can preserve otherwise obscure references to specimens, owners, and publications from a disrupted period of scholarship and collecting. Use the original issue and page number, rather than only the bound-run title, when citing a specific item.

Because much of the material predates relevant archaeological evidence and modern standards of provenance documentation, verify dates, mint assignments, typologies, reported findspots, and ownership histories against current scholarship and surviving collection records.
