American Journal of Numismatics, vols. 44–45, covers several consecutive issues of the first series. These volumes contain scholarship and collecting records from the years when die study and hoard-based chronology were becoming more influential. Greek coin researchers should consult articles, notes, reviews, and reports together, since useful evidence may be embedded in society proceedings or collection news. The run helps document early adoption—and sometimes resistance—to revised chronologies and mint assignments. Use the original issue and page number, rather than only the bound-run title, when citing a specific item.
Because much of the material predates relevant archaeological evidence and modern standards of provenance documentation, verify dates, mint assignments, typologies, reported findspots, and ownership histories against current scholarship and surviving collection records.
