American Journal of Numismatics, vols. 23–25, covers several consecutive issues of the first series. This bound run combines scholarly notes with extensive evidence for late nineteenth-century collecting. Its Greek content includes specimen descriptions, reports of hoards and acquisitions, correspondence, auction notices, reviews, and summaries of work published abroad. The two detected plates may preserve images of coins or related material that are otherwise difficult to connect with the text. Use the original issue and page number, rather than only the bound-run title, when citing a specific item.
Because much of the material predates relevant archaeological evidence and modern standards of provenance documentation, verify dates, mint assignments, typologies, reported findspots, and ownership histories against current scholarship and surviving collection records.
