Müller’s first volume surveys the ancient coinages of North Africa, including Greek Cyrenaica, Carthaginian and Punic issues, Numidian and Mauretanian rulers, and related civic series. It is useful for early classifications, scripts, royal sequences, local types, and the collection history of rare specimens. The work also illustrates the nineteenth-century attempt to integrate Greek, Punic, and indigenous coinages within one regional framework.
Because the work predates modern Punic and Libyco-Berber epigraphy, archaeological sequencing, and die studies, verify scripts, rulers, mints, dates, and authenticity against current North African corpora and museum records.
