Volume I is the principal text and catalogue of Svoronos’s Ptolemaic corpus, covering the royal series from Ptolemy I through Cleopatra VII. It organizes gold, silver, and bronze by ruler, denomination, mint, control marks, and type, and established the Svoronos numbers still routinely used in catalogues and sales. Researchers can use it to identify the historical attribution attached to a number, follow Svoronos’s mint and ruler arguments, and locate cited specimens and hoards. Use Volume II for the corresponding visual evidence.
Svoronos remains a numbering standard, not the final chronology. Check ruler and mint assignments, denominations, control systems, die links, and hoard dates against modern Ptolemaic corpora and recent archaeological evidence.
