Svoronos’s monumental Cretan corpus organizes the coinages of the island city by city, combining types, legends, weight, fabric, overstrikes, literary evidence, and extensive specimen references. It remains indispensable for legacy Svoronos numbers, rare civic issues, mythological iconography, and the identification of coins from nineteenth-century collections. Researchers can also use it to study intercity type borrowing and the unusually rich local narratives represented on Cretan coinage.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
