Cretan Civic Coinage and Mythological Types

A guide to Svoronos, BMC Crete, Macdonald's metrological note, and indexed references for Cretan civic coinage.

Use this path for Cretan civic issues, local mythological types, overstrikes, and old Svoronos or BMC Crete citations. Svoronos is the main corpus for city-by-city Cretan coinage; BMC Crete gives a specimen-based British Museum catalogue with plates and compact descriptions.

Macdonald’s note is small but useful for questions about Cretan silver weights and standards. Mionnet can help when the clue comes from an older French citation or a dispersed nineteenth-century collection.
