This volume covers the Peloponnese and island coinages, where brief antiquarian descriptions may record rare civic bronzes, local ethnic legends, and mythological types from collections later dispersed. It is useful for tracing pre-corpus references to Cretan and insular material. Like the rest of Mionnet’s Description, the entry is a nineteenth-century inventory of coins known from public cabinets, private collections, earlier books, and the market rather than a modern die corpus. Researchers should note Mionnet numbers, quoted owners, measurements, rarity marks, and cross-references, since these can connect a modern specimen to an early publication or dispersed cabinet.
The terminology, geography, authenticity judgments, dates, and attributions are often obsolete, and measurements may not follow modern conventions. Verify every identification against current corpora and use the original French volume and page when citing a specimen.
