Macdonald examines the weights and standards of Cretan silver coinage, using a plate and comparative data to address the relationships among island mints and external monetary systems. The study is useful as a compact companion to Svoronos’s regional corpus, especially when evaluating denomination names, weight loss, and claims of Aeginetan or other standards. It also illustrates how early scholars used limited datasets to infer circulation and monetary alignment.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
