The first Hunterian volume catalogues the collection’s western and northern Greek holdings, from Magna Graecia and Sicily to Macedonia, Thrace, and Thessaly. Detailed descriptions, weights, legends, and plates make it useful for identifying Hunter specimens, checking old readings, and tracing coins acquired from major nineteenth-century collections. The regional introductions also preserve Macdonald’s synthesis of chronology and monetary standards.

Because the Hunterian collection and scholarship have developed since publication, verify inventory numbers, current locations, mint assignments, dates, and readings against the University of Glasgow’s present records and modern regional or dynastic corpora.
