Babelon catalogues the royal coinages of Syria, Armenia, and Commagene in the Bibliothèque nationale, with twenty-eight plates and extensive historical commentary. The volume is valuable for Seleucid ruler and mint sequences, Armenian and Commagenian dynasts, portraits, monograms, dates, and the provenance of major Paris specimens. Its catalogue numbers and plates remain important for resolving older citations and for tracing coins that were later reclassified within more specialized corpora.
Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
