The fourth volume covers Africa and the islands and includes uncertain, Phoenician, Punic, and other coins in scripts then poorly understood. It is especially important for the historiography of North African and Semitic-script numismatics and for engraved records of specimens whose legends or find histories were later reinterpreted. Pellerin’s proposed readings should be compared with the plate rather than accepted from the text alone.
These volumes predate modern epigraphy, archaeology, die study, and scientific authenticity testing. Verify scripts, rulers, dates, mints, and restored legends against current corpora, but retain the original plate and page because Pellerin may be the earliest witness for a specimen.
