Despite the site’s generic English series title, the first volume is Pellerin’s Recueil de médailles de rois, devoted to royal coins that he considered unpublished or little known. It discusses Seleucids, Ptolemies, Mithridatids, Cappadocian and Bithynian kings, Parthians, and other dynasties through engraved plates and historical commentary. Researchers can use it to find the first published appearance of rare royal types, early ruler attributions, monogram readings, and specimens from Pellerin’s celebrated cabinet.
These volumes predate modern epigraphy, archaeology, die study, and scientific authenticity testing. Verify scripts, rulers, dates, mints, and restored legends against current corpora, but retain the original plate and page because Pellerin may be the earliest witness for a specimen.
