The second volume in Pellerin’s sequence is the first tome of the Recueil de médailles de peuples et de villes and covers European mints. It records civic and ethnic coinages through engraved plates, legends, and antiquarian commentary, often using coins from Pellerin’s own collection. Its chief value is documentary: early publication of types, old geographical attributions, and evidence for specimens that entered later French or private collections.
These volumes predate modern epigraphy, archaeology, die study, and scientific authenticity testing. Verify scripts, rulers, dates, mints, and restored legends against current corpora, but retain the original plate and page because Pellerin may be the earliest witness for a specimen.
