The third volume is the Asian tome of Pellerin’s civic series. It ranges across Anatolia and the eastern Mediterranean, describing little-known coins of cities and peoples with particular attention to ethnic legends, local types, and historical geography. Researchers can use the plates and collection references to trace the earliest publication of rare Asia Minor and Levantine issues and to understand attributions inherited by later catalogues.
These volumes predate modern epigraphy, archaeology, die study, and scientific authenticity testing. Verify scripts, rulers, dates, mints, and restored legends against current corpora, but retain the original plate and page because Pellerin may be the earliest witness for a specimen.
