Gaebler’s volume is a systematic catalogue of Macedonian and Paeonian coinage, treating royal, tribal, federal, and civic issues with detailed legends, types, denominations, and specimen references. It is especially useful for interpreting older AMNG numbers, distinguishing similarly named mints, tracking civic and provincial titulature, and locating coins once held in German and other European collections. The plates and indices remain practical aids when a modern database record cites only Gaebler.
Because the work predates much of the archaeological and die-study evidence now available, check its chronology, ruler sequences, mint attributions, and readings of worn legends against current regional corpora, Roman Provincial Coinage, hoard evidence, and online museum records.
