Historical Geography Thrace
Chronological Coverage ClassicalHellenisticRoman Provincial
Subject Tags Civic Coinage

Strack’s volume organizes the extensive coinage of Thrace by kingdom, dynasty, and city, covering autonomous Greek and Roman provincial issues through detailed descriptions of legends, portraits, civic types, denominations, and known specimens. It is useful for separating homonymous rulers or mints, reconstructing old collection references, and following the evolution of local types under Roman rule. Many catalogues still cite its AMNG numbers, making it an essential bridge between legacy references and modern databases.

Because the work predates much of the archaeological and die-study evidence now available, check its chronology, ruler sequences, mint attributions, and readings of worn legends against current regional corpora, Roman Provincial Coinage, hoard evidence, and online museum records.
