Coin Hoards

Noe’s early monograph surveys Greek coin hoards and the ways they can be used to establish chronology, circulation, and historical context. Its twenty-nine plates and case studies document discoveries known before the later standardized hoard inventories. Researchers can use it to recover old hoard names, locate first reports, understand early methods of closing-date analysis, and identify specimens whose find association was later lost. It should be read alongside Noe’s 1925 bibliography, which provides broader coverage.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, and provenance evidence, verify chronology, mint and ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and present specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
