The Numismatic Chronicle 1847 is the annual London volume cited as NC 1847. It belongs to the journal’s formative first series, when British collectors and antiquaries communicated newly observed coins, private-cabinet material, discoveries, translations, and correspondence. Greek articles are often short and specimen-driven, but can be the earliest printed record of a type or collection. Reviews and notices of new books provide a contemporary map of the literature, often identifying offprints, catalogues, and foreign articles that are now difficult to locate through modern bibliographies.
