Kroll investigates the changing types of the Athenian Wappenmünzen and argues for the significance of the gorgoneion issues in the transition to owls. Comparison with other Greek coinages and the sequence of types inform the discussion. Read it with Kraay’s earlier owl study to follow two different parts of the same chronological problem.
