Head’s monograph treats Lydian electrum and Croeseid coinage together with Achaemenid darics and sigloi, using weight, metal, fabric, types, and historical sources to construct an early chronology. It is useful for the historiography of coinage origins, the classification of lion and bull types, and the development of Persian royal series. Specimen references and plates can also help trace coins in the British Museum and private collections before later reattribution.
Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, and provenance evidence, verify chronology, mint and ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and present specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
