This alternate scan reproduces Gardner’s 1918 synthesis of ancient coinage from the first issues to about 300 BC. Its regional narrative, discussion of standards, and attention to artistic and political development remain useful for tracing the older historiography of Greek money. Consult the alternate copy when plates, maps, or typography are clearer, but cite the 1918 book rather than treating the two digitizations as separate works.
Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
