The enlarged second edition of Historia Numorum revises and greatly expands Head’s geographical survey of Greek mints, rulers, types, standards, and chronology. Its compact regional entries remain useful for decoding older references and for obtaining a rapid overview of a mint’s historical coinage. Researchers should note that citations to “HN” may refer to this edition rather than the 1887 original, and page numbers and classifications differ substantially between them.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
