Syracusan "Medallions" and Their Engravers in the Light of Recent Finds

Evans studies Syracusan dekadrachms and related large silver issues, concentrating on the signed and attributed work of Kimon, Euainetos, and other engravers. Seven plates support comparisons of dies, signatures, style, and newly reported specimens. The book is useful for the history of artist attribution, for identifying specific dekadrachm dies, and for tracing coins through major nineteenth-century collections and finds.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
