Ward’s collection is presented geographically, with Hill’s historical and numismatic commentary linking coins to the cities, landscapes, cults, and political communities that produced them. Twenty-two plates make the book useful for visual orientation and for identifying specimens from the Ward collection, while the text provides concise introductions to many mints. It is particularly helpful when researching how early collectors connected coin types with ancient topography and civic identity.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, and provenance evidence, verify chronology, mint and ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and present specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
