Sylloge of Ancient Unedited Coins of Greek Cities and Kings

Millingen’s Sylloge publishes further coins of Greek cities and kings that he considered unedited, with four plates and references to public and private collections. It is useful for first publications, variant legends, rare rulers or mints, and the reconstruction of nineteenth-century provenances. Researchers should compare it with his 1831 volume, since the two works form a continuing record of newly observed material rather than a systematic complete corpus.

Because the work predates much of the modern archaeological, die-study, epigraphic, and provenance evidence, verify dates, mint or ruler assignments, legend readings, authenticity, and current specimen locations against current corpora and databases.
