This volume catalogues the British Museum’s holdings from Troas, Aeolis, and Lesbos. It concentrates on Coinages of northwestern Asia Minor and Lesbos, including archaic electrum, civic silver and bronze, and provincial issues; useful for ethnic readings, local symbols, magistrates, and uncertain mint attributions. Entries normally record metal, denomination, weight, diameter, legends, types, rulers or magistrates, acquisition data, and cross-references, while the plates preserve the appearance of many frequently cited specimens. Researchers can use the volume to resolve abbreviated BMC citations, identify individual museum coins, recover old readings and provenances, and understand the evidence on which later classifications were built.
Because the museum collection, inventory records, and scholarship have changed substantially since publication, check catalogue numbers, current attributions, dates, legends, and provenance against the British Museum Collection Online and the latest regional or dynastic corpus.
