FOREWORD. -The description of the coins of Paeonia and Macedonia is, like the first band, from me edited with use one of me for the most part completely changed Manuscripts from Julius Friedlaendcr, which one the recent major acquisitions exercises (Fox and Prokesch) still not contained. After finishing printing there is a very important coin added to the oldest Macedonian royal line, whose Illustration and description may find space here: Aermenaos Macedonian king or dynast. AEPMHNAO rider in step r., with hat, in the L. two lowered spears holding. Rs: Quadratum incusum, quadrupled by diagonals shares. M6. 14,^)2 grm. The coin belongs to its style certainly either Mace- donien itself or the neighborhood of Macedonia on.* * I >as weight of the large silver pieces of the older Macedonian King's row is under li very different. Compare that on p. 183 about Alexander I. Said.
VI Very similar is that of Gousinery (voyage in Macedoine II, Plate VII, No. 8) coin shown: Rider with hat in step r., in the L. two Spears lowered, below AA. Rs: Lying goat right, looking back, in line square and recessed square. JR 5^. This coin is certainly justified by Gousinery King Alexander I (Beginning the Persian Wars until about 450 V. Ghr.) and probably belongs to the last government time of the same. In the same time, so around 450 v. Ghr., or just a little later, maybe too the coin des historical until now unknown Aermenaos; you're not allowed to to the much later, in the name similar sounding macedo African prince Heromenes ('Hpoju£V7]g), killed 336 v. Ghr., Son of Aeropos (Droysen, Gesch. Alex. d. Gr. p. 102) think, if the latter name correct handed down is. The name Aermenaos sounds like Aeropos and there "Heromenes" out the family of Aeropos is, would be yes maybe a ver- relationship or even identity of both names, Aermenaos and "Heromenes" not excluded. The coin is anyway significant older as that of Aeropos (397-392 v. Ghr.). Whether our Aermenaos one who only reigned for a very short time and therefore King unknown in written tradition of Macedonia or a small dynast of the neighborhood, lets hardly decide, the whole look the coin but speaks far more for one really the Macedonian Rulers belonging to the royal line. Maybe gives us, like in similar cases (e.g. b. at Ketriporis), once one Inscription certainty. Berlin, May 28th 1889. The director of the K. Coin cabinets. Alfred von Sallet.
