Zeitschrift für Numismatik, Vol. 23, is a German scholarly volume cited as ZfN 23 (1902). This later volume reflects increasingly specialized research by scholars such as Imhoof-Blumer, Regling, and von Fritze on mints, hoards, iconography, and eastern Greek coinages. Short notes, literary notices, and proceedings can be as valuable as full articles for first publications, corrected readings, hoard reports, and references to private collections that were later dispersed. Researchers should use the contents index to locate the individual article, then record its author, pages, and plates rather than relying on the volume abbreviation alone.
Because chronology, political geography, museum inventories, and authenticity assessments have changed, check dates, mint assignments, legend readings, hoard reconstructions, and current specimen locations against modern corpora and institutional databases.
