(a) We think that Pellerin, by placing this silver medal In Pella, the law gave a great attribution. This opinion is based sar the legend PEA. who stands out for this medal, whose initial belongs, by its form, to an era which takes us back, knowing the medals of Macedonia, at least in the time of Philippe Arillée, while on the contrary all the bronze medals rowed with certainty in Pella constantly indicate nne manufactures beanconp recent pines. It results from this observation that the town of Pella would not have the right to mint money under the first kings of Macedonia, and that the medal in question must therefore belong to another country.
Many antiquarians have believed, with some basis, that this medal was from Peloponnese, because of the laurel wreath on the in the middle of which the legend lies, a type which seems to recall a frequent use in TAubaïe. Ht we didiho thought that we could give this medal to Pellene; however no" we are not of the same opinion, because this city only offers us medals of the family of Septimius Severus, and that it would be surprising if there were a space of several centuries between the time of manufacture of this so-called medal of Pellene and those who are found in the offices. Therefore not knowing factory currencies intermediaries, we believe it more appropriate to put this mis- daille at Pelinna of Thessaly, of which we already have ancient coins; moreover its factory is similar to that of several rilles of this region. "^
Mr. Sestini reported, in his Descript. num. ^and. p. 108, one another medal perfectly similar in type and legend; but it is gold. While paying tribute to the merit of this
